Kansas City, known as the “City of Fountains,” is the largest city in the state of Missouri, with a population of 482,299, or 2,053,928 for the entire metropolitan area.  The city is divided into a variety of unique neighborhoods, including Westport, Ivanhoe, Waldo, Brookside, Hyde Park, and Briarcliff. 

The Kansas City School District serves the city’s children.  Kansas City also provides a variety of private schools, including Rockhurst, St. Teresa’s Academy, Notre Dame de Sion, the Barstow School, Pembroke Hill, St. Paul’s Episcopal Day School, St. Peter’s, Calvary Lutheran, Christ the King, St. Elizabeth’s, and the Kansas City Academy.  The city is also home to a number of universities, colleges, and community colleges, including a campus of the University of Missouri (UMKC), the Kansas City Art Institute, Avila University, Park University, Rockhurst University, William Jewell College, and Penn Valley Community College.

Kansas City is home to headquarters for many Fortune 500 companies, such as Sprint Nextel, H & R Block, and YRC Worldwide.  Numerous Fortune 1000 companies also have headquarters in the metropolitan area, including Interstate Bakeries, Great Plains Energy, Aquila, AMC Theatres, DST Systems, Garmin International, Cerner, Seaboard Corporation, and Russell Stover Candies.  Other major employers are Hallmark, Dairy Framers of America, Black and Veatch, Latherop and Gage Law Firm, Kansas City Southern Railway, Commerce Bank Shares, UMB Financial Corporation, American Century Investments, Gould Evans, Novastar Financial, Burns and McDonnell Engineering, 360 Architecture, Andrews McNeel Universal, J.E. Dunn Construction, Copaken, White and Blitt, and the Boulevard Brewing Company. 

Kansas City has spent recent years upgrading its public transportation services.  The Metro Bus provides inexpensive efficient service across Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas City, Kansas, as well as many area suburbs. 

The metropolitan area is served by Kansas City International Airport.  Shuttle bus service is available to transport passengers between the city and the airport, which is located about 30 minutes north of downtown Kansas City.  For regional travel, Amtrak provides train service out of the recently renovated Union Station. 

The city boasts many attractions that draw locals and visitors alike.  Kansas City has four major entertainment areas, including the new Power and Light District in the heart of downtown, the Country Club Plaza, known for its upscale shops and restaurants, Westport, known for its unique atmosphere and lively nightlife, and Waldo, known for its bars and small shops.  The Cross Roads District near downtown has become the heart of Kansas City’s art scene, while 18^th and Vine is the historic home of Jazz in Kansas City.  Downtown is home to the new Sprint Center, which hosts major concerts and events, and the soon-to-open Performing Arts Center.  Also near downtown is the Crown Center complex, providing many entertainment and shopping options.  The Plaza area is home to the city’s two major art museums, the world renowned Nelson Atkins Museum of Art and the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art.  The Kansas City Zoo is always popular with Kansas City’s youngest residents, while adult residents enjoy the excitement at the many casinos located in the city.  For shopping options further afield, residents can venture north of the Missouri River to Zona Rosa or across the Kansas border to the Legends in Kansas City, Kansas.  The city is home to 214 urban parks, including Swope Park and Loose Park.  Kansas City is home to a full range of sports teams, including the Chiefs (football), the Royals (baseball), the Wizards (soccer), the T-Bones (minor league baseball), the Explorers (team tennis), and the Brigade (arena football).  Another huge sporting attraction in the metropolitan area is the Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas, which hosts massive NASCAR events, attracting fans from all over the country.
