Overland Park is served by three school districts, including Shawnee Mission, Blue Valley, and Olathe.  All three districts are known for their outstanding educational opportunities, with many families moving to the area to provide their children with a top-notch education.  The city is also home to Johnson County Community College and the Edwards campus of the University of Kansas (KU). 

Overland Park exceeds the national average of 90 percent employment.  The average household income is $70, 405.  Overland Park is home to the headquarters of numerous companies, including Sprint Nextel, YRC Worldwide, Embarq, Black and Veatch, Waddell and Reed Financial Investment, Ash Grove Cement Company, and Compass Minerals. 

Unlike some suburban areas surrounding other medium-size cities in the United States, Overland Park actually provides efficient public transportation in the form of The Jo bus service, which provides connections between all areas of Johnson County, KS, and offers riders quick service to downtown Kansas City, MO, as well as the Plaza and Waldo areas of Kansas City.    

The entire metropolitan area of Kansas City, including Overland Park, is served by Kansas City International Airport.  Shuttle bus service is available to transport passengers between the city and the airport, which is located about 40 minutes north of Overland Park. 

Overland Park offers many attractions for residents, including the Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, the Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead, the Farmer’s Market, and the historic downtown area.  Shoppers are drawn to the massive Oak Park Mall and Town Center Plaza, an upscale outdoor shopping area.  Overland Park also attracts many conventions, expos, and other events at the Overland Park Convention Center.  The city is also home to 72 parks, offering over 1800 acres of outdoor recreation space.
