First time called into jury duty was quite the learning experience. Jackson county courthouse, 5th floor is the meeting place. Each case called 40 to 50 individuals into their court to be questioned. It was narrowed down to 12 jurors that the plaintiffs and defendants attorneys could agree upon. The process began at 8:00am and I was dismissed at 6:45pm. Typically the judge attempts to end before 5:00pm, but they prefer to narrow down the jurors on day 1 so those not called upon don’t have to show up the next day as well.
The average Jackson County, Missouri case takes 3.5 days. You are paid $6.00 per day, plus .07 cents per mile from the middle of your zip code to the courthouse.
Once you have been selected for jury duty, the county may not call upon you to serve for another 3 years.
